PRIORITIZING MENTAL HEALTH AND EDUCATION IN PA!

In July, we told you about a proposal championed by Senator Ryan Aument that was signed into law as Senate Bill 700. This legislation will provide schools with the resources to effectively limit student smartphone use during the school day. Since then, this issue has blown up nationwide and become a household talking point for people across the country. Good. It is time we start taking definitive action to help improve not only our students’ academic performances but their mental health too.

Restricting the use of cell phones during class is a safe and structured way to enhance focus and minimize distractions, creating a more productive learning environment. It also addresses one of the primary causes of the mental health crisis plaguing our children—smartphones and social media.

There is still a lot of work to be done. Still, this initiative is a vital step toward improving our failing education system. We are proud that Sen. Aument has long led the charge for this commonsense legislation in Pennsylvania.
